Lisa See

LISA SEE is a noted author of California history. Her book, On Gold Mountain; The One Hundred Year Odyssey of My Chinese-American Family, was a national bestseller and a New York Times Notable Book of 1995. The book traces the journey of Lisa’s great-grandfather, Fong See, who overcame obstacles at every step to become the 100-year-old godfather of Los Angeles’s Chinatown.

Her other books include Flower Net, The Interior, and Dragon Bones. She is a journalist whose articles have appeared in many prestigious journals, newspapers and magazines.

Lisa was born in Paris but grew up in Los Angeles, spending much of her time in Chinatown. She serves on a LA City Commission and was honored as the National Woman of the Year by the Organization of Chinese American Women in 2001 and was the recipient of the Chinese American Museum’s History Makers Award in 2003.

Lisa’s presentation promises to be a fascinating account of the history of Chinese struggles and successes in Los Angeles.

Note that the meeting is at the San Marino High School Cafeteria. Please make your reservation early by e-mail to cityclub@socal.rr.com or by calling 626-578-1109. Members’ dinners are covered by dues; guest dinners are $20.
