An Insider's View of Afghanistan

Nouri to Give Insider’s View of Afghanistan to City Club

Hasan M. Nouri of Laguna Hills will be featured at San Marino City Club’s February dinner meeting on Tuesday, February 17, in the Huntington Middle School cafeteria at 6:30 p.m. Nouri will speak on "An Insider’s View of Afghanistan."

Nouri was born in Afghanistan but came to the United States in 1965 and has followed and assisted his native land ever since he emigrated.

For more than 25 years, Nouri has offered hope to thousands of orphans and victims in war zones and catastrophe areas across the world. One of the goals of the International Orphan Care is to construct an orphanage in Kabul, Afghanistan, which would house about 1,000 children. The organization, which already operates two orphanages in Afghanistan, has been given three acres of land from the Afghan government to build the facility. "The need is enormous in Afghanistan," Nouri said. "There are thousands of homeless children in the streets begging."

Nouri has first hand knowledge of working with the orphans. In 1989, he cared for an injured 8-year-old Afghan orphan in his Laguna Niguel home for six months.

Nouri is the recipient of the Herbert Hoover Medal for his humanitarian contributions to mankind.

The award, which former presidents Herbert Hoover, Dwight Eisenhower and Jimmy Carter have been honored with, is given out jointly by five engineering societies in America to recognize great, unselfish, and non-technical services from engineers to humanity.

Please note that the February meeting will be at the Huntington Middle School cafeteria, 1700 Huntington Drive, at 6:15 p.m. Guests are welcome, but must make a reservation by calling Dennis Kneier at (626) 578-1109. The dinner cost $20.
